Hearing aids for sale fall into two main categories; digital and analogue. Digital aids are the most modern, whereas analogue aids are being gradually phased out, due to the out of date technology. Click here for more information on digital and analogue hearing aids.
There are three main types of hearing aids which can be purchased:
• Behind the Ear (BTE)
• In the Ear (ITE)
• In the Canal (ITC)
This is the most common type of aid. They usually entail an ear mould which sites inside your ear and the hearing aid which rest behind the ear, with a plastic tube connecting the two.
Recent developments have resulted in alternative means of fitting the BTE called “open ear fitting”, were rather than an ear mould within the ear the tube leading into the ear has a soft earpiece at the tip. This results in a less visible ear piece, but is only suitable if your hearing loss is mild or moderate.

As with In the Ear aids the entire aid is placed in the ear. But ITC fits right inside your ear canal. Small ITC aids can fit right inside the canal so they can hardly be seen. If you have narrow canals this form of hearing aid may not be suitable.
