Digital hearing aids contain a small computer which converts the sounds from the microphone into data that can be manipulated by the computer. As a result the hearing aid can be programmed very precisely to tailor the sound to match your hearing requirements very accurately.
Many such aids can adjust themselves automatically to suit different sound environments.
Analogue hearing aids contain a microphone that picks up the sounds and converts them into electrical signals. These signals are then amplified into the earphone in the hearing aid so you can hear the sound.
High quality aids use a system known as “Automatic Gain Control” which amplifies quiet sounds but gives less amplification to loud sounds, making for more comfortable hearing.
However, analogue aids do not have the advanced features which digital aids can offer, and may not be able to suit your exact hearing needs. Hence why analogue hearing aids are being gradually phased out.
Analogue aids cannot offer the flexibility and ability to be fined tuned to suit your needs that a digital aid can offer. With analogue aids being phased out, digital aids are a more suitable purchase. For more information on buying hearing aids click here.
