Hearing loss and how to meet it head on.

Hearing loss for some is inevitable as we age. Hearing loss as we age can sneak up on us, barely noticeable at first, but progressively worsening over time.

The first signs can be the inability to hear high pitch noises, and words seem to me more softly spoken. Often children’s and woman’s voices become harder to hear. As the hearing worsens often we adapt our living conditions to overcome the loss of hearing by asking people to talk louder or by turning up the TV. Often, unless action is taken to rectify the problems we withdrawn from social life, to avoid putting ourselves in situations where our loss of hearing can causes issues.

Fortunately treatment is available to help in such situations. Modern hearing aids can greatly improve the quality of hearing in many cases. With the advent of digital hearing aids the size, quality and features of hearing aids has progressed greatly over the past few years. Appropriate hearing aids can prevent those with hearing loss to withdraw from socialising with friends and family and give them the ability to enjoy life again.

Hearing aids are available from the NHS or from private dispensers. Often people opt for private dispensers and the process can be much quicker than going via the NHS.
