There are four levels of hearing loss; profound, severe, moderate and mild;
This is the most extreme level of hearing loss and you may not be able to hear loud speech or any level of speech. As a result you may be forced to rely on visual communication such as sign language or speech reading (lipreading).
• Profound - 90 dBHL or more
Severe hearing loss sufferers may only hear speech if the speaker is talking loudly or very close. Symptoms of severe hearing loss include the inability to old conversations unless they are being held in very quite situation and face to face.
• Severe - 70-89 dBHL
Moderate hearing loss would result in the ability to hear speech at short distances face to face, but may pose problems holding conversations at a distance.
• Moderate - 40-69 dBHL
Mild hearing loss may result in difficulties in hearing someone father away tan normal talking distance. Quite voices or background noises may also make hearing difficult.
• Mild - 20-39 dBHL
