Become used to your new hearing aids.

If it is your first time wearing hearing aids, you must allow yourself sufficient time to get used to them. Spend some time familiarising yourself with you new model, understanding how all the control work. Take some time to practice taking it in and out. Wearing the aid for the first time may feel awkward to begin with, so it is probably best to build up slowly, try starting off by wearing the aid for half an hour for the first day and gradually build up over the coming days. Ensure you remember to switch the hearing aids off when you take them out.

It will take time to get used to the sounds of the new hearing aids, as you may not have heard these sounds for some time. People often find that their voice sounds different that what you are used to, but don’t worry you will get used to this. It will take time for your brain to become used to these new sounds.

Start off with listening to easy sounds, without background noises and in loud places. Listening to the TV is a good starting point.

If you feel your hearing aid is not performing correctly contact your hearing aid dispenser. It maybe something simple like a flat battery.

Remember you do not need to rush into wearing your new hearing aid, take you time and become familiar with the aid.
